August 13th EPL Round Up

Newcastle United vs Tottenham Hotspurs (Game watched by NAFB)

Newcastle United 0 – 2 Spurs

Interesting comments from Mike Ashley pre game regarding his financial ability and lack of transfers.

Not much to report from the first half, two Newcastle players off injured, similar to the Watford game. Gotta feel for Rafa as he already has a smaller squad than he would like to have.

Oh this isn’t good, Shelvey gets a red card, direct red. Will most likely miss the next 2 or 3 games for that. Sent off for stamping on Alli’s ankle. Son coming on for Sissoko who gets booed by the toon army. Spurs fans will be glad to see Son coming on, he is wearing a cast on his broken arm. Alli breaks the deadlock, you got the feeling that a goal was coming for Spurs. Spurs have dominated the game with 15 shots against Newcastle’s 2, over 70% of the ball. And yes they have their second, their left back gets a goal, Davies on the score sheet. Beautiful start to the play by Alli, he’s been fantastic. Eriksen has 2 assists tonight. 10 man Newcastle are struggling to get the ball off Spurs, who are just running the clock down at this point. Looks like Alli is going to be brought off for Wanyama, spurs taking no chances, Alli doesn’t look very happy going off. Game set and match, 2-0 for Spurs, good performance out there today.

Newcastle can take solace in the fact that they didn’t concede a goal till they went down to 10 men. However, Rafa needs new players to come in and it doesn’t sound like Mike Ashley is going to let it happen. We could see Rafa walk

Man of the match

Could go to either Alli or Eriksen, going to give it to Alli for his goal and role in the second.

Next Up

Newcastle play Huddersfield who will look to continue their winning ways while Spurs host a really poor Chelsea side, they could put Chelsea 6 points off the pace as soon as next week.

Manchester United vs West Ham United (Game watched by NAFB)

United hand an EPL debut to Lukaku and Matic, while former red Javier Hernandez, Zabaleta, Joe Hart and Arnautovic make their debuts for the Hammers. No Ander Herrera or Martial for the Red Devils.

United come out of the gates looking the stronger side, dominating in all areas of the pitch. They have had the most chances, after a flurry of corners and some brilliant play from Pogba, Mata came close to setting up a tap in for Lukaku.

Lukaku did eventually get on the score sheet, and soon after he got his second for United. Martial, Fellaini and Lingard made an appearance of the bench, Martial being the most effective, setting up Pogba and getting a goal of his own.

Overall it was a solid outing by the Red Devils at home, the fact that they scored 4 goals without hitting top gear is scary and there are big things to come for this United team. West Ham can take solace from the fact that it was Manchester United at home, a team that is favorite to be in the top 2 this season. They have lesser teams coming up and should have no trouble getting a run going.

Man of the Match

There are a few good shouts for MotM. It has to be Mkhitaryan who ran the game and set up 2 goals. Lukaku and Martial were 100% in with a shout but I felt that Martial wasn’t on the pitch for long enough and Lukaku did miss a couple of chances.

Next Up

Manchester United are away to Swansea in a game they are going to have no trouble with, West Ham go away to Southampton who did get a draw versus Swansea, the Hammers should have no difficulty at St. Mary’s stadium.
